Alder Cone Earrings

Alder is one of our trees which grow abundantly this far north. Some folks think it is more like a weed but the birds love the seeds from the cones. The cones are green in the summer and as the seasons progress they dry out and turn brown. When a wind comes along the seed, buried deep within the cone escape and fall to the ground, looking a bit like flakes of bran. Over the winter, the birds feed on these seeds. Subsequent snowfall will cover them but as the snow melts in the spring the birds find them again and there is a flurry of activity.
Tiger eye stone history dates back thousands of years to when the golden-brown quartz was carved into amulets and talismans worn by ancient Roman soldiers. Tiger eye was believed to help one remain calm and courageous, stay focused and persevere. They also have a very subtle color-shift.
